The Devils have signed Andy Greene to a long term extension, the team announced.

Greene, who will turn 32 in October, would have been eligible to be a UFA after the 2014-15 season.

Habs, Subban Submit Arbitration Asks

The Habs and P.K. Subban have submitted their arbitration requests in advance of Friday’s scheduled hearing:

The Canadiens have elected for a one-year award, as opposed to a two-year contract.

Despite the upcoming hearing, the two sides are both hopeful they can come to terms on a long-term contract instead, though reportedly they are still about $1 million apart in AAV.

Leafs Re-Sign RFA Gardiner

The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed restricted free agent defenseman Jake Gardiner to a five-year contract extension worth $20.25 million.

Gardiner, 24, scored 10 goals and 11 assists in 80 games with Toronto last season.

This contract could be a steal for Toronto if Gardiner develops into the player the Leafs believe he could be. He will immediately get a chance to prove his worth with Carl Gunnarsson’s departure which left an opening on the team’s top defensive pairing.

Jets Re-Sign Michael Frolik

The Winnipeg Jets have signed Michael Frolik to a 1 year, $3.3 million deal, avoiding his arbitration hearing set for Thursday.

Frolik, 26, was acquired from the Blackhawks last June for two mid-round draft picks. He is eligible to become a UFA upon the expiration of his one-year contract.

Frolik had 15 goals and 27 assists in 81 games for the Jets last season.

Red Wings Re-sign Forward Tomas Tatar

As per a tweet by Helene St. James, a sports journalist for the Detroit Red Wings and the Red Wing’s official website, the team has agreed to a new three year, $2.75 million per season deal with forward Tomas Tatar.

Tatar netted 19 goals and 20 assists for 39 points in 73 games. He is a talented player for the team and he is expected to continue to refine his game in the classical Red Wing’s system. This deal is an example of a perfect bridge contract that works well for both the team and Tatar.

Leafs Sign Daniel Winnik

The Leafs have signed Daniel Winnik to a one-year contract reports Hockey Central:

Winnik, 29, had 6 goals and 24 assists in 76 games last season with the Ducks. That’s with almost zero powerplay time.

Report: Oilers, Avalanche Interested in Penguins’ Sutter

Johnny Feulner of Fansided’s Pens Labrynth passes along a report from William DePaoli of Inside Pittsburgh Sports that the Avalanche and Oilers have interest in Penguins center Brandon Sutter.

DePaoli reports that the Penguins have made three different offers to Sutter, including a four year deal, but Sutter wants a one-year deal, as that would take him to unrestricted free agent eligibility.

The Penguins are deep down the middle even without Sutter, with Crosby, Malkin and Goc a formidable group of centers for the top three lines.
