Z. Michalek Dealt to the Blues

As per Bob McKenzie of TSN, Z. Michalek and a conditional 3rd rounder have been dealt to the St. Louis Blues in return for Maxim Letunov. The Arizona Coyotes will retain 50 percent of Michalek’s salary.

Rimer: Blues Close on Michalek

Josh Rimer reports that Zbynek Michalek appears to be close to being moved to the St. Louis Blues.

Rangers trade for Yandle

The New York Rangers have officially traded for Keith Yandle from the Arizona Coyotes.

As tweeted by Bob McKenzie, the team gave up Anthony Duclair, John Moore, a 2015 2nd round pick, and a condition 2016 1st round pick for Yandle, Chris Summers, and a 4th in 2015.

The Rangers are clearly looking to win this year, and by picking up Yandle, the team has a much stronger chance of going on a deep playoff run.

Hawks Acquire Timonen From Flyers

The Blackhawks have acquired Kimmo Timonen from the Flyers in exchange for a 2015 2nd round pick and a conditional 2016 pick the Flyers announce.

Timonen, 39, has missed the entire 2014-15 season due to blood clots, but is expected to return this weekend.

Pierre Lebrun reports the Blackhawks are still after a forward. John Shannon reports that Sam Gagner, as well as the oft-mentioned Antoine Vermette, is in the mix.

Chicago had an extra second rounder in this year’s draft – a compensatory pick for losing 1st rounder Kevin Hayes to free agency.

Pierre Lebrun gave some details on the conditional pick:

Pagnotta: Chicago Wants Vermette Deal Done Now

Dave Pagnotta of the Fourth Period reports that the Blackhawks would like to get a deal done for Antoine Vermette as soon as possible.

Yesterday, Bob McKenzie classified Chicago as the team most eager to make a move and Vermette as the player most in demand.

Insider Trading: Vermette, Blackhawks, Capitals, Leafs, Bruins, Petry

From February 26th’s TSN Insider Trading:

Bob McKenzie says the Blackhawks definitely want to use the money available from placing Patrick Kane on LTIR on a player with to term on his contract beyond this season. He says, at this point, the Hawks are the most interested team in making a deal before the deadline, and that Antoine Vermette is the player most in demand throughout the league. The Blackhawks are seriously interested in Vermette, but also Curtis Glencross and Cam Atkinson.

Pierre Lebrun reports that Capitals are interested in Erik Cole, Curtis Glencross and Joffrey Lupul.

Darren Dreger says there’s no guarantee that any of Joffrey Lupul, Dion Phaneuf or Tyler Bozak are traded before the deadline, there is “a lot of interest and activity” surrounding the trio.

Pierre Lebrun says the Boston Bruins have been looking for a winger for over a month. They’ve been in on Chris Stewart for a while now. They are also interested in Erik Cole, Cam Atkinson and Curtis Glencross.

Darren Dreger says a Jeff Petry trade talks haven’t produced a satisfactory offer as of yet, and re-signing is unlikely at this point, so GM Craig MacTavish continues to wait.

Report: Hawks Interested in Atkinson, Vermette

Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times reports that the Blackhawks are interested in both Cam Atkinson of the Blue Jackets and Antoine Vermette of the Coyotes.

Vermette is a pending UFA while Atkinson will be a RFA after this season.

Insider Trading: Sekera, Michalek, Kings, Wisniewski, Habs, O’Reilly

From February 24th’s edition of TSN’s Insider Trading:

Bob McKenzie says the Blackhawks are among the many teams that are interested in Carolina’s Andrej Sekera, as the Hawks have been extensively scouting the Canes’ defenseman. He says it sounds like Johnny Oduya is close to returning, but the team is looking to add to their blueline, regardless.

McKenzie says that Zbynek Michalek‘s concussion is concerning some suitors. He says even if Michalek isn’t in action by the trade deadline, he should still be traded, though the compensation would likely be heavily conditional.

Pierre Lebrun reports that the Los Angeles Kings are interested in both Sekera and Michalek, however the Kings are cautious about adding salary in case they need cap space should Slava Voynov be reinstated. He senses the Kings are leaning towards risking it, and taking on salary anyways. He says they would ideally like to add a top-four defenseman, and a forward due to Tanner Pearson being out of the lineup.

Darren Dreger says the Blue Jackets are testing the market for James Wisniewski, but his contract is “cumbersome”. He says Wisniewski has submitted a list of 10 teams he would not accept a trade to.

Bob McKenzie says the Habs’ trade of Jiri Sekac for Devante Smith-Pelly was fueled by head coach Michel Therrien’s lack of trust in Sekac. Pierre Lebrun reports that GM Marc Bergevin would like to add both a forward and a defenseman before Monday’s trade deadline, but he’s not going to mortgage the future to do so. He says he would be very surprised if the Habs were seriously interested in Joffrey Lupul.

Darren Dreger says that a deal involving Ryan O’Reilly is unlikely to happen before the trade deadline. He says there may be some discussion about the parameters of a contract extension, and if there’s no traction a draft day trade may be likely.
