Pierre Lebrun reports that although there’s no deal yet, contract talks between the Islanders and defenseman Johnny Boychuk are “getting there”.

Boychuk was acquired by the Islanders on October 4th, the same day they acquired Nick Leddy from the Blackhawks. The two trades have cemented the Islanders blueline, and are a major reason they are fighting for the Metropolitan Division crown at this stage of the season.

UPDATE: Boychuk himself gave a suggestive tweet:

Arthur Staple reports the seven-year contract is worth $42 million [$6M per]. The contract will expire when Boychuk is 39.

Conacher Traded to Canucks

The New York Islanders have made yet another move, sending forward Cory Conacher to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for forward Dustin Jeffrey.

Conacher, 25, may suit up for Vancouver at some point during the regular season, but for the time being, he was told to report to their AHL affiliate in Utica.

Jeffrey, 27, has spent the entire season in the AHL after signing  a one-year deal with the Canucks.

Islanders Acquire Neuvirth

The New York Islanders have acquired goaltender Michal Neuvirth from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for goaltender Chad Johnson and a third round pick in 2016.

The acquisition of Neuvirth, 26, will allow the Islanders to rest Jaroslav Halak more down the stretch of the regular season and provide the team with depth should Halak struggle during the playoffs.

Tyler Kennedy Dealt to Islanders

Tyler Kennedy has been traded to the Islanders, reports Pierre Lebrun.

Darren Dreger reports that the Islanders gave up a conditional 3rd round pick.

Since Darren Dreger reported yesterday that the Oilers might consider a trade of Taylor Hall, there’s been a solid day of speculation about the star winger.

Sean Gentille and Thomas Drance gave lists of teams they think might be a good fit if the Oilers would to trade Hall.

Both Drance and Gentille listed the Lightning and the Islanders as potential destinations, with names like Jonathan Drouin, Ryan Strome, Andrej Sustr and long-time Oiler favorite Griffin Reinhart coming back in return.

Drance also mentions the Columbus Blue Jackets, while Gentille suggests the Los Angeles Kings, Philadelphia Flyers, Boston Bruins and Pittsburgh Penguins as possibilities.

Islanders Acquire Nick Leddy

Not so fast on my retraction, there. Arthur Staple reports the Islanders have acquired Nick Leddy in addition to Johnny Boychuk.

Te Islanders have made a couple very serious steps to being a dangerous hockey team in 2014-15.

Isles Get Boychuk, Not Leddy

Arthur Staple of Newsday called take-backsie on the previous Nick Leddy story, instead reporting that they’ve completed a deal for Bruins defenseman Johnny Boychuk.

Report: Isles Close to Landing Leddy

Arthur Staple of Newsday reports the Islanders are very close to landing Nick Leddy from the Blackhawks.
