Bruins Acquire Brett Connolly

The Bruins have acquired Brett Connolly from the Lightning for their own second round picks in 2015 and 2016.

Connolly, 22, was the Lightning’s 6th overall pick in the 2010 draft. He has 12 goals and 3 assists in 50 games this season.

Lightning Acquire Coburn from Flyers

The Tampa Bay Lightning have landed the defenseman they were after. The club has acquired Braydon Coburn from the Flyers in exchange for Radko Gudas, and 2015 1st and 3rd round picks.

The Lightning have placed goaltender Evgeni Nabokov on waivers this morning.

The move is likely a precursor to the team upgrading their backup goaltending by having 20 year old Andrei Vasilevski take over Nabokov’s spot.

The Lightning’s signing of Nabokov this past summer was always a curious one. Nabokov, 39, was the starter for the Islanders, who placed 27th in the league in team save percentage in 2013-14. This season, Nabokov is 3-6-2 with a .882 SV% and a 3.15 GAA.

Since Darren Dreger reported yesterday that the Oilers might consider a trade of Taylor Hall, there’s been a solid day of speculation about the star winger.

Sean Gentille and Thomas Drance gave lists of teams they think might be a good fit if the Oilers would to trade Hall.

Both Drance and Gentille listed the Lightning and the Islanders as potential destinations, with names like Jonathan Drouin, Ryan Strome, Andrej Sustr and long-time Oiler favorite Griffin Reinhart coming back in return.

Drance also mentions the Columbus Blue Jackets, while Gentille suggests the Los Angeles Kings, Philadelphia Flyers, Boston Bruins and Pittsburgh Penguins as possibilities.

Ducks Acquire Eric Brewer From Bolts

The Ducks have acquired Eric Brewer from the Lightning in exchange for a 2015 3rd round pick.

Pierre Lebrun reports that the Lightning have retained 26% of Brewer’s $3,875,000 cap hit for 2014-15. Brewer’s contract is up after this season.

The Ducks have a need on the back-end as they announced today that defensemen Francois Beauchemin and Clayton Stoner have been placed on the injured reserve.

Lightning Sign Bishop to Two-Year Extension

The Tampa Bay Lightning have signed their starting goaltender Ben Bishop to a two-year, $11.9 million contract.

Bishop, 27, posted a 34-14-7 record last season along with five shutouts, a .924 save percentage, and a 2.23 goals against average which was good enough for a Vezina Trophy nomination.

The Lightning have struggled finding a consistent starter in their crease, but Bishop seems to have resolved that issue and should continue to develop into an elite goalie.

Lightning Sign Brenden Morrow

The Lightning have signed Brenden Morrow to a one-year deal:

Morrow, 35, recorded 13 goals and 12 assists in 71 games last season with the Blues.

Brian Boyle Passed Up Larger Offer From Leafs

Brian Boyle passed up more money from the Maple Leafs to sign a $6 million / 3 year deal with the Lightning, he tells the Tampa Bay Times.

Tampa Bay offered Boyle some familiarity, as ex-teammates Anton Stralman and Ryan Callahan had already landed there, and his new wife is from Orlando.
