Oilers Trade Petry to Habs

Jeff Petry has been traded to the Canadiens for a 2015 2nd round pick and a conditional 5th round pick.

The 5th round pick can become as high as a 3rd if the Canadiens win two rounds of playoffs.

Insider Trading: Vermette, Blackhawks, Capitals, Leafs, Bruins, Petry

From February 26th’s TSN Insider Trading:

Bob McKenzie says the Blackhawks definitely want to use the money available from placing Patrick Kane on LTIR on a player with to term on his contract beyond this season. He says, at this point, the Hawks are the most interested team in making a deal before the deadline, and that Antoine Vermette is the player most in demand throughout the league. The Blackhawks are seriously interested in Vermette, but also Curtis Glencross and Cam Atkinson.

Pierre Lebrun reports that Capitals are interested in Erik Cole, Curtis Glencross and Joffrey Lupul.

Darren Dreger says there’s no guarantee that any of Joffrey Lupul, Dion Phaneuf or Tyler Bozak are traded before the deadline, there is “a lot of interest and activity” surrounding the trio.

Pierre Lebrun says the Boston Bruins have been looking for a winger for over a month. They’ve been in on Chris Stewart for a while now. They are also interested in Erik Cole, Cam Atkinson and Curtis Glencross.

Darren Dreger says a Jeff Petry trade talks haven’t produced a satisfactory offer as of yet, and re-signing is unlikely at this point, so GM Craig MacTavish continues to wait.

From TSN’s Insider Trading:

Darren Dreger suggests that it’s unlikely that any trades for Phil Kessel and Dion Phaneuf happen before the March 2nd trade deadline. The Globe and Mail reported today that a full tear down and rebuild has the full support of MLSE.

Bob McKenzie reports it’s more likely we see “hockey deals”, not rentals for Habs at the trade deadline. He says Lars Eller and Alexei Emelin have been floated around in potential deals for players with years on their contract past 2013-14 for weeks or even months. Both Eller and Emelin are signed through 2017-18.

Pierre Lebrun reports that the Penguins are after a rental defenseman, with Cody Franson, Jeff Petry, Jan Hejda, and Scott Hannan among the potential targets.

Dreger reports Jets looking to add top-9 or top-6 forward. He also says teams have been calling about Tyler Myers, but he’s not going anywhere at this moment.

Dreger says that, although teams keep asking, a Malcolm Subban trade is very unlikely. The Bruins might trade Subban for another high end prospect, but the draft is a more likely time than the trade deadline.

Wings Still Looking for Right-Handed Defensemen

Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports that, although it’s coach Mike Babcock’s preference to have a balance of right- and left-handed defensemen, the team’s roster consists exclusively of left-handed handed defensemen.

St. James lists Cody Franson, Eric Gryba, Jeff Petry and Tyler Myers as potential targets for the wings. She suggests Mike Green will probably stay put as long as Washington is in playoff contention, and wonders about Justin Faulk, whom I doubt Carolina would move.

Eberle Could Still Be Traded

The Fourth Period reports that, despite Craig MacTavish‘s call for patience, Jordan Eberle‘s future with the club remains up in the air. Though the Oilers would expect a significant for Eberle, he’s still “very much in play” according to TFP’s source.

The Oilers are not expect to trade either Taylor Hall or Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, however.

The report says the Oilers are looking for a top-two centerman, a top pairing defenseman and a starting goaltender. It is also noted that Nail Yakupov, Jeff Petry, David Perron, Teddy Purcell and Justin Schultz are in play. Yakupov, like Eberle, would only be traded for a like asset, however.
