According to the St. Louis Blues, the team has acquired Justin Faulk and a 5th round pick from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for Joel Edmundson, prospect Dominik Bokk, and a 7th round pick.
The Blues also announce that they reached an agreement on a new contract for Faulk, which will be 7 years at an AAV of $6.5 million, starting in 2020-21.
The Blues will have Faulk, Alex Pietrangelo and Colton Parayko patrolling the right side of their blueline. Pietrangelo is eligible to be a UFA this summer and Parayko has three seasons left on his contract.
Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports that, although it’s coach Mike Babcock’s preference to have a balance of right- and left-handed defensemen, the team’s roster consists exclusively of left-handed handed defensemen.
St. James lists Cody Franson, Eric Gryba, Jeff Petry and Tyler Myers as potential targets for the wings. She suggests Mike Green will probably stay put as long as Washington is in playoff contention, and wonders about Justin Faulk, whom I doubt Carolina would move.
The Carolina Hurricanes have signed RD Justin Faulk to a $29 million / 6 year deal [$4.833M per].
With lots of speculation around what the Hurricanes’ future may look like, the Hurricanes have locked up a big piece of it for the next 6 seasons. Faulk, 22, has 3 goals and 21 assists in 65 games this season for the Hurricanes. Faulk is 2nd among Hurricanes in ice time with 23:21 per game.
Faulk’s new contract will expire after the 2019-20 season. Faulk gave up 2 potential UFA seasons in this contract.
