Report: Short-term Deal Expected for Barzal

Andrew Gross of New York Newsday reports that industry expectation is that RFA Mathew Barzal will sign a 2 or 3-year deal worth about $7 million annually.

Gross outlines how the retirement of Johnny Boychuk probable move to the long-term injury reserve will help the Islanders fit Barzal under the cap.

He also notes the Islanders haven’t announced contracts yet for Andy Greene, Matt Martin and Cory Schneider. It is believed the Islanders have reached agreements with the trio and are waiting for more clarity in their cap situation before announcing the contracts.
