According to a report by Dave Pagnotta of the Fourth Period, Eric Staal has little interest in subjecting himself to the two-week quarantine that being traded to a Canadian team would require.
Pagnotta says that Staal has a 10-team no-trade clause, and could therefore remove Canadian teams as a possibility. This part is unclear to me, as players don’t normally carry their no-trade protection to their new team after being traded.
Carolina, Florida and St. Louis are mentioned as U.S. teams with interest in Staal.
