How Will the Leafs Approach the Trade Deadline?

James Mirtle of the Athletic looks at multiple trade options and scenarios that the Toronto Maple Leafs could look at to strengthen their club before the trade deadline.

He proposed trades for forwards Kyle Palmieri, Scott Laughton and Nick Foligno, defenseman Dmitri Kulikov, and goalie Chris Driedger. The proposed costs of the trades never rose above a second round pick and a throw-in prospect. Mirtle did not include defenseman Timothy Liljegren or the Leafs first round pick in any of the proposals, despite both assets being rumored to be in play.

Mirtle goes into a scenario where the Leafs land the trio of Palmieri, Kulikov and Driedger. He notes if all three players come with 50% of their salaries retained and the Leafs send Alex Galchenyuk and Jason Spezza to the taxi squad, they could fit the acquisitions under the cap.

The Leafs should be an interesting team to watch as the April 12 deadline approaches.
