The New York Rangers have acquired J.T. Miller from the Vancouver Canucks. The Canucks receive in return Filip Chytil, Victor Mancini and a top-13 protected 2025 1st round pick. The Rangers also receive Erik Brannstrom and Jackson Dorrington.
This trade has been much rumored, with it reportedly almost coming to fruition earlier this month.
Miller brings a unique blend of size and skill to the Rangers, but the Canucks felt they had to move him because of a clash with Elias Pettersson. Miller previously clashed with Bo Horvat before the Canucks moved him to the Islanders. He had 152 goals and 285 assists in 404 games with the Canucks over 6 seasons. Miller is signed through 2027-28 at a cap hit of $8 million.
Filip Chytil is the main piece going back to the Canucks. The 24-year old center has 11 goals and 9 assists in 41 games this season. He figures to get more of an opportunity in Vancouver, with a clear lane to 2nd line minutes. Injuries are a concern with Chytil, as he missed most of last season with a concussion. He carries a $4.44 million cap hit through 2026-27, saving the Canucks $3.56 million in cap space.
Victor Mancini is a big, mobile defense prospect, who could contribute to the NHL soon. He played 15 games for the Rangers this season, putting up 1 goal and 4 assists.
If the Rangers’ 2025 1st round pick falls in the top-13, the Canucks will receive their 2026 1st round pick.
