On tonight’s Saturday Headlines, Elliotte Friedman touched on some trade talk around the league.
- The Carolina Hurricanes met with Mikko Rantanen’s representatives face-to-face over the Four Nations Faceoff and the Hurricanes made an offer believed to be worth more than $100 million over the life of the contract. Rantanen hasn’t said no, but still needs to process the offer and everything that’s happened since his surprising trade to Carolina. Teams are waiting to see if the winger hits the trade market, but it might be possible that the Canes hold on to him if they are confident they can re-sign him, even if his signature isn’t on a contract prior to the trade deadline.
- Some teams talking about acquiring both Brayden and Luke Schenn from St. Louis and Nashville respectively. Brayden has said he hasn’t been approached about a trade as of yet.
- Seth Jones has asked for a trade to a contender, though not many contenders have much space to take on his $9.5 million cap hit.
