The Winnipeg Jets will sign Jonathan Toews to a 1-year contract when he is eligible on July 1.
The contract will contain bonuses, which is permissible for players over 35 on a 1-year contract. Winnipeg will be able to carry those bonuses on their 2026-27 cap if they cannot fit them under their 2025-26 cap.
The contract has a base salary of $2 million, with $5 million in potential bonuses, which would be reached if Toews plays 60 regular season games and 50% of the games in each round and the Jets win the Cup. If he plays 60 regular season games and the Jets make the second round of the playoffs, he would be paid $5.5 million.
Toews, 37, last played with in the NHL in 2022-23 when he put up 15 goals and 16 assists in 53 games with the Blackhawks. He has been out of hockey since then as he recovered from chronic inflammatory response syndrome.
