The Carolina Hurricanes have acquired K’Andre Miller from the New York Rangers in exchange for Scott Morrow, a conditional 1st round pick and a 2nd round pick.
Prior to the trade the Rangers signed Miller to an 8-year contract with a cap hit of $7.5 million. The contract will cover 2 RFA seasons and 6 UFA seasons.
Elliotte Friedman reported that Carolina originally was looking at sending Miller an offer-sheet but the 2 sides settled on a trade instead. A trade allows for the 8th year in Miller’s contract, for Carolina to protect their 1st round pick and allows for the Rangers to get the defense prospect Morrow back in the trade.
Miller, 25, had 7 goals and 20 assists in 74 games for the Rangers last season.
