According to Elliotte Friedman, trade talks were progressing on a trade that would send J.T. Miller out of Vancouver, but discussions hit a snag and talks are currently off. He believes the other team to be the New York Rangers.
He doesn’t disclose what the snag on the trade was, and has previously mentioned that New York is believed to be a preferred destination for Miller, so it’s unlikely that Miller would exercise his no-trade protection in such a deal. Mika Zibanejad, the main name rumored to go back to Vancouver in a Miller trade, has no-trade protection as well. One has to wonder if it isn’t Zibanejad holding up a potential deal.
Friedman further states that the Canucks have given permission for some teams to speak with Miller.
He also notes that Elias Pettersson has stated his desire to stay with the Canucks.
