The Vegas Golden Knights have acquired Mitch Marner from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for Nicolas Roy.
The Leafs signed Marner to an 8-year contract extension with a $12 million cap hit prior to the trade.
Marner, 28, was the top UFA scheduled to hit the market this summer. He had 27 goals and 75 assists in 81 games for the Leafs last season.
The Leafs get a serviceable forward in return for Marner’s rights in Roy, who is signed for 2 seasons at a cap hit of $3 million.
There have been rumors that Vegas might have to place Alex Pietrangelo on LTIR, which would open some salary cap flexibility.
