Oilers re-sign Connor McDavid

The Oilers have re-signed Connor McDavid to a 2-year contract extension with a cap hit of $12.5 million.

The Oilers captain clearly left money on the table to preserve cap space with the goal of aiding the Oilers’ pursuit of the Stanley Cup. McDavid’s cap hit of $12.5 million has no raise from his previous contract signed in 2017, and falls $4.5 million below Kirill Kaprizov’s extension signed last week.

McDavid, 28, has won the Hart trophy in 2016-17, 2020-21 and 2022-23 as the league’s most valuable player. The Oilers have lost in the Stanley Cup Finals in back-to-back years, falling both times to the Florida Panthers.
