• Penguins extend Sidney Crosby

The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed Sidney Crosby to a 2-year contract extension.

Late in the summer, there was some buzz that Crosby was unsure about re-signing in Pittsburgh while they appear to be entering at least a soft rebuild, but it appears wearing another jersey just isn’t a palatable option for the Pittsburgh icon.

In 1272 games with the Penguins, Crosby has 592 goals and 1,004 assists. Those 1,596 points place him 10th all-time in NHL ranks, with 9th place Joe Sakic an attainable target for the 2024-25 season.

  • Blue Jackets sign James van Riemsdyk

The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed James van Riemsdyk to a 1-year contract.

The 35 year old winger had 11 goals and 27 assists in 71 games for the Bruins last season.

  • Flames re-sign Jakob Pelletier

The Calgary Flames have re-signed Jakob Pelletier to a 1-year contract.

Pelletier, 23, split last season between the Flames and their AHL affiliate the Wranglers. He has 4 goals and 6 assists in 37 career NHL games.

  • Maple Leafs sign Jani Hakanpaa

The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed Jani Hakanpaa to a 1-year contract.

It was previously reported that the Leafs had signed Hakanpaa to a 2-year deal, but injury concerns apparently squashed that deal.

  • Maple Leafs sign Pacioretty to PTO

The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed veteran winger Max Pacioretty to a professional try-out.

Pacioretty, 35, played last season with the Washington Capitals, putting up 4 goals and 19 assists in 47 games, coming off a season lost to Achilles injuries in 2022-23. He reportedly rejected a trade to the New York Rangers at the trade deadline, opting to finish the season with the Capitals.

  • Flames sign Jarred Tinordi

The Calgary Flames have signed Jarred Tinordi to a 1-year, 2-way contract.

The Flames also announced that veteran defenseman Tyson Barrie will join the team on a professional try-out.

  • Maple Leafs sign Nick Robertson

The Toronto Maple Leafs have re-signed Nick Robertson to a 1-year contract.

Robertson had asked for a trade earlier this summer, apparently disgruntled with the lack of opportunity he’s received in Toronto to date. Robertson will be a restricted free agent with arbitration rights after this 1-year deal.

  • Kraken extend Adam Larsson

The Seattle Kraken have signed Adam Larsson to a 4-year contract extension.

Larsson, 31, is an original Seattle Kraken player. He was second on the Kraken with 151 blocked shots last season.
