    Hurricanes acquire Jake Guentzel

The Carolina Hurricanes have acquired Jake Guentzel from the Pittsburgh Penguins.

    Here’s your deal:

    To Carolina: Guentzel, Ty Smith

To Pittsburgh: Michael Bunting, Ville Koivunen, Vasili Ponomarev, Cruz Lucius, conditional 2024 1st, conditional 2024 5th.

    — Elliotte Friedman (@FriedgeHNIC) March 8, 2024
The conditions on the picks are as follows: if Carolina makes the Cup Finals this season the Penguins will receive their 1st round pick, if not they will receive Philadelphia’s 2nd. If Carolina wins the Cup, the Penguins receive an additional 5th round pick.

It appears to be an underwhelming return for Guentzel, as Carolina keeps their top prospects in Bradly Nadeau, Alexander Nikishin, Jackson Blake and Scott Morrow, and keeps their 1st round pick unless they make it to the Finals.
