• Wild re-sign Marco Rossi

The Minnesota Wild have re-signed Marco Rossi to a 3-year contract with a $5 million cap hit.

The Austrian forward will have 1 RFA season remaining after this contract, in which his team can keep his rights by extending a $6 million qualifying offer, as Michael Russo notes.

Rossi, 23, had 24 goals and 36 assists in 82 games for the Wild last season, though he was dropped to the 4th line in the playoffs where his production dipped. The length of time Rossi went without a contract suggests that the team and player have differing opinions about the player’s worth and/or long-term future, and it wouldn’t be shocking to see Rossi finish this contract on another team.

  • Blackhawks re-sign Frank Nazar

The Chicago Blackhawks have re-signed Frank Nazar to a 7-year contract extension with a cap hit just below $6.6 million.

The forward still has 1 more season on his entry-level contract, so the new 7-year pact will start in 2026-27. The new contract will cover 5 RFA seasons and 2 UFA seasons.

Nazar, 21, had 12 goals and 14 assists in 53 games last season for the Blackhawks.

  • Red Wings sign Travis Hamonic

The Detroit Red Wings have signed Travis Hamonic to a 1-year contract worth $1 million.

Hamonic, 34, had 1 goal and 6 assists in 59 games with the Senators last season.

Hamonic will join the right-side of the Red Wings’ blue line that includes Mo Seider, Justin Holl and Jacob Bernard-Docker.

  • Sabres re-sign Devon Levi

The Buffalo Sabres have re-signed Devon Levi to a 2-year contract with a cap hit of $812,500.

The contract is for the NHL minimum salary of $775,000 in 2025-26 and $850,000 in 2026-27. Sometimes young NHLers will take a lower cap hit than they potentially could to make it easier for the NHL team to justify keeping them in the NHL. The Sabres have Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and the recently signed Alex Lyon in net. Levi can be sent to the AHL without waivers.

Levi, 23, will have 2 RFA seasons remaining after this contract expires. He has had mixed results at the NHL level through his young career, but went 25-13-4 with a 0.919 SV% with Rochester of the AHL last season.

  • Islanders re-sign Maxim Tsyplakov

The New York Islander have re-signed Maxim Tsyplakov to a 2-year contract with a cap hit of $2.25 million.

Tsyplakov and the Islanders had an arbitration hearing set for July 29.

The winger will be eligible to be a UFA after this 2-year pact.

Tsyplakov, 26, had 10 goals and 25 assists in 77 games for the Islanders in his first NHL season last year.

  • Hurricanes re-sign Jackson Blake

The Carolina Hurricanes have re-signed Jackson Blake to an 8-year contract extension with a cap hit of $5.1 million.

Blake has 1 season left on his entry-level contract so his new deal will start in 2026-27.

The total value of the contract is $5.625 million per season, but the cap hit is reduced as some of the payments are deferred.

  • Kraken re-sign Kaapo Kakko

The Seattle Kraken have signed Kaapo Kakko to a 3-year contract with a cap hit of $4.525 million.

The contract covers 1 RFA season and 2 UFA seasons.

Kakko was traded from the Rangers to the Kraken last season in a trade that sent Will Borgen to the Rangers. He had 14 goals and 30 assists in 79 games split between the 2 teams.

  • Jets re-sign Gabe Vilardi

The Winnipeg Jets have re-signed Gabe Vilardi to a 6-year contract with a cap hit of $7.5 million.

The contract will cover 2 RFA seasons and 4 UFA seasons.

Vilardi, 25, had 27 goals and 34 assists in 71 games for the Jets last season. He came to the Jets in the summer of the summer of 2023 in the trade that sent Pierre-Luc Dubois to the Kings.
