• Golden Knights to sign Brandon Saad

    The Los Vegas Golden Knights are signing Brandon Saad to a 1 year, $1.5 million contract, reports Elliotte Friedman.

    Saad and the Blues mutually agreed to terminate his contract today. Saad had 1 additional year at $4.5 million left on his contract but chose to make a financial sacrifice to get another NHL opportunity, rather than play in the AHL.

    Saad, 32, had 7 goals and 9 assists in 43 games for the Blues this season.

  • Flyers, Flames execute 4-player trade

    The Philadelphia Flyers and Calgary Flames have made a 4-player trade.

    The Flyers will receive: Andrei Kuzmenko, Jakob Pelletier, a 2nd round pick and a 7th round pick

    The Flames will receive: Joel Farabee and Morgan Frost

    Of the players in the trade, only Farabee is signed past this season. Farabee carries a cap hit of $5 million through 2027-28.

  • Blues waive Brandon Saad

    The St. Louis Blue have placed Brandon Saad on waivers.

    Saad, 32, has 1 more season left on his contract at a cap hit of $4.5 million.

    In 43 games with the Blues this season, Saad has 7 goals and 9 assists.

  • Capitals to extend Logan Thompson

    The Washington Capitals are signing Logan Thompson to a 6-year contract with a cap hit of $5.85 million.

    The Capitals acquired Thompson from the Golden Knight at the 2024 Entry Draft for a pair of 3rd round picks.

    Thompson, 27, has been a find for the Capitals. In 27 games this season, he’s gone 22-2-3 with a 0.925 SV%. He will be 34 year old at the conclusion of this contract.

  • Islanders acquire Scott Perunovich

    The New York Islanders have acquired Scott Perunovich from the St. Louis Blues.

    Perunovich, 26, has 2 goals and 4 assists in 24 games for the Blues this season. Perunovich has 1 more RFA season after 2024-25.

  • Hurricanes acquire Mikko Rantanen

    The Carolina Hurricanes are to acquire Mikko Rantanen from the Colorado Avalanche.

    It’s apparently a 3-team trade also involving Chicago, who are sending Taylor Hall to Carolina.

    Cam Robinson reports that Martin Necas is going to Colorado in the trade. They are also getting Jack Drury.

    The Blackhawks are retaining 50% of Rantanen’s salary and are acquiring a 3rd round pick.

  • Islanders sign Tony DeAngelo

    The New York Islanders have signed Tony DeAngelo to a 1-year contract worth the league minimum $775,000.

    DeAngelo, 29, has played this season with St. Petersburg SKA of the KHL, posting 6 goals and 26 assists in 34 games. He played in the NHL last season with the Hurricanes, putting up 3 goals and 8 assists in 31 games.

    The Islanders learned recently that Noah Dobson will be out week-to-week with an injury. The team is hoping DeAngelo can bring enough offense in Dobson’s powerplay spot to make up for his obvious defensive shortcomings.

  • Johnston: Devils, Canes also in on J.T. Miller

    On TSN’s Insider Trading, Chris Johnston says that the New Jersey Devils and Carolina Hurricanes are teams believed to have active communication with the Canucks regarding trading for J.T. Miller. This is in addition to the New York Rangers, a team Johnston expects to pick up talks once again.

    Johnston notes that Miller, who has a full no-trade clause, would prefer an American team in the Eastern Conference.

    The Hurricanes and Devils are currently sitting in 2nd and 3rd place in the Metropolitan Division.
