• Friedman: Jets Wanted Jamie Oleksiak

On the most recent episode of 31 Thoughts: The Podcast, Elliotte Friedman suggests (1:05:50) that the Winnipeg Jets were targeting Jamie Oleksiak before the trade deadline.

Friedman says it would have been expensive acquisition for the Jets, but they were prepared to do it. In the end, the Stars decided to keep Oleksiak, who they would like to sign to an extension beyond this season.

The Stars may eventually sign Oleksiak after the expansion draft, so that they don’t need to risk losing him and his new contract to Seattle. Stars defensemen Miro Heiskanen, John Klingberg and Esa Lindell all require protection in the expansion draft.

  • Jets Re-Sign Adam Lowry

The Winnipeg Jets have signed Adam Lowry to a five-year contract.

Lowry, 28, has 8 goals and 12 assists in 44 games for the Jets this season. He was due to be a UFA this summer.

  • Leafs Had “Intense” Conversations On Conor Garland

On the 31 Thoughts podcast (31:45), Elliotte Friedman says that the Toronto Maple Leafs were engaged in trade talks with Conor Garland prior to the trade deadline.

Garland had been in trade rumors, as Arizona recognizes he’s due for a big raise when his contract is up this summer.

Friedman reports that the Leafs didn’t make the trade for Nick Foligno until they knew that they were out on Conor Garland.

  • Reports: Vegas Had Many Irons in the Fire on Trade Deadline Day

The Vegas Golden Knights picked up winger Mattias Janmark from the Chicago Blackhawks at the trade deadline for a second round pick and a swap of later picks, but according to reports, they were active on many other options.

Dave Pagnotta of the Fourth Period reports that they had discussions about acquiring Ryan Getzlaf from the Anaheim Ducks, but balked at the asking price.

Frank Seravalli on the DFO Podcast reports that Janmark was a tertiary option for the Knights. He says they were in on Taylor Hall and offered their first round pick for Nick Foligno.

  • Dreger: Habs Were Interested in DeAngelo

According to Darren Dreger, the Montreal Canadiens were interested in Tony DeAngelo as a free agent in the event that the Rangers were able to mutually terminate his contract.

DeAngelo, unsurprisingly, was not interested in a termination of his contract. That would have required him walking away from the remaining portion of his $4.3 million salary this season, and the one-third of his $5.3 million salary next season which he would be due after a buy-out.

Montreal seems to be a peculiar fit for DeAngelo, who wouldn’t have a clear path to PP1 minutes, and would potentially have difficulty providing enough offense to justify his defensive shortcomings and any other issues he might bring to the team.

  • Taylor Hall Traded to Bruins

Nick Kypreos suggests the return might include Anders Bjork and a 2nd round pick.

Darren Dreger reports that Curtis Lazar is also going to the Bruins.

  • Maple Leafs Acquire Nick Foligno

The Maple Leafs have acquired Columbus Blue Jackets captain Nick Foligno.

Aaron Portzline suggests there’s a good chance that Foligno returns to Columbus as a free agent.

Columbus now owns the 2021 first round picks of Toronto and Tampa Bay, as well as their own.

  • Tampa Bay Closing in on David Savard Trade

The Tampa Bay Lightning are reportedly close on a trade that would see them get David Savard from the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Pierre Lebrun reports that the return could include a first round pick.
