The Ottawa Senators have acquired William Eklund, Kasper Halttunen and Brandon Svoboda from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for the Florida Panthers’ 2026 1st round pick (9th overall).
Eklund, 23, has 3 years remaining on his contract with a cap hit of $5.6 million. He will have 1 RFA season remaining after his current contract expires.
The trade opens up a space for the Sharks in their forward corps in case they wanted to draft winger Ivar Stenberg at 2nd overall. The Sharks could then use the 9th pick to draft a defenseman to fill the organizational need.
