According to Elliotte Friedman, it was believed that Gauthier would rather not play for the Flyers. As a college player, Gauthier could have became a UFA if he remained unsigned after his senior year in 2025-26. -
Leafs to sign Nylander to extension
The Toronto Maple Leafs will sign William Nylander to a 8-year contract extension.
Nylander, 27, was set to be a UFA this summer. He has registered 21 goals and 33 assists in 37 games this season.

Leafs waive Ilya Samsonov
The Toronto Maple Leafs have placed goaltender Ilya Samsonov on waivers.
Samsonov is signed through 2023-24 only at a cap-hit of $3.55 million. He’s been very disappointing for the Leafs this season, posting a 5-2-6 record with an 0.862 SV%.

Hurricanes waive Raanta
The Carolina Hurricanes have waived goaltender Antti Raanta.
Raanta has really struggled this season, sporting a 0.854 SV% in 14 games. Carolina signed veteran goalie Jaroslav Halak to a try-out earlier in the season but have since released him.
The Hurricanes will likely be looking for other solutions in net, as Frederik Andersen is out long-term and Pyotr Kochetkov has been subpar as well.
Kevin Weekes tweeted earlier today that Karel Vejmelka of the Coyotes has been drawing interest from teams around the league, and he seems to be a potential candidate for the Hurricanes.

The Chicago Blackhawks have acquired Anthony Beauvillier from the Vancouver Canucks.
Chicago had a need for some help up front following Taylor Hall’s season-ending surgery, and today’s announcement that they were terminating Corey Perry’s contract for a violation of his contract. -

The Detroit Red Wings are signing Patrick Kane.
Kane has been sidelined since his off-season hip resurfacing surgery. -
Wild fire Dean Evason, hire John Hynes
The Minnesota Wild have hired John Hynes as their new head coach.
The Wild announced earlier today that they had let go Dean Evason and assistant coach Bob Woods. The Wild are 2-6-2 in their last 10 games and currently sit two points up on the Central’s last place Chicago Blackhawks.

Wild trade away Addison; acquire Bogosian
The Minnesota Wild made two separate trades today, bringing in Zach Bogosian and shipping out Calen Addison.
They traded a 2025 7th round pick to Tampa Bay for Bogosian and acquired Adam Raska and a 2026 5th round pick from Minnesota for Addison.
